Kitchen-where we spent most of our life but often ignored in its design and structure. A kitchen should be efficiently constructed that require minimum movement while cooking or cleaning the dishes.

It is a place prone to attract insects due to wet conditions most of the time. In my ancestor's home, the kitchen used to be very large. Though it is convenient to work, it required a lot of moving around.

Even now, kitchen designs are not all that work efficient place. May be this world famous exhibition of kitchen designs will have something for us and for the future.

Chennai is cheaper than China!

Yes, it is true; why else cell phone companies are clamouring Chennai and turning their back to China which has been their favorite country to manufacture mobile phones?

I read an article by Rajesh Chandramouli in Times of India about the right cell phone connection to Chennai.

The world is very well aware of former union minister for Communications Dayanidhi Maran's brilliant effort to make Chennai as the most industrialized city in India. Pekka Ala Pietila, president of Nokia praised Chennai for the availability of cheaper skilled labour than China.

Nokia was the first to set up their factory in Chennai.

Nokia later expanded by setting up more plants when it found out that the cost of labour in Chennai is cheaper by a whopping 11% over Chinese labour.

Now, mobile handsets that are manufactured in Chennai brings voluminous foreign currency to India.

Tamilnadu workers are most sought after by Hyndai, Nokia and Ford.

I hope I am not attacked for repeatedly calling Chennai as Madras. I am yet to reconcile with the name Chennai.

I am a proud Madrasi, not because of its stupendous industrial growth. Madras is being hunted down by the manufacturers of world's top car companies that include Ford, Nissan, Hyndai and Volkswagon.

It is a matter of sheer pride that cars manufactured in Madras are being imported to the Europeans who are known for their high quality cars. More than one million cars were exported by Hyndai and look at the figure of benefiting countries; it is 110.

In the mobile phone sectors, Nokia is squarely sitting and expanding its production capacity. Other popular brands that have already set up their factories are Motorola, Flextronics and Foxconn.

High-end leather goods made in Tamilnadu are now competing successfully with Italian leather goods!

The main reason for Madras being sought after by leaders of world class manufacturers is the quality and sincerity of workers of Tamilnadu.

Bed without frame!

Yes, it was a lovely bed without frame! I liked it immediately and told my son that I would like to buy it.

My son looked at me with a mockery. Then he told me that this bedroom furniture is meant for kids. Oh my God, how could I have missed it? Yes, the bed was small for adults.

Recently, I visited a model flat with my son. It was just out of the world. It was huge with 2200 sq.ft and fully air-conditioned. The floor tile was inviting to walk on without footwear.

The entire flat was tastefully furnished with high quality contemporary furniture with wonderful velvet upholsters. The entire kitchen was decorated with shining white marble and the design of the kitchen required minimum movements.

The bedroom furniture set in the master bedroom spoke comfort. The bed stand was fitted with exquisite reading lamps and convenient bookshelf. The bedroom led to an airy and bright balcony with beautifully painted modern grill.

When we asked the price, I gasped audibly. The price is just beyond our means. However, we took photographs of the furniture for future use.
