Does Nepal beckon highly trained beauticians?

A Nepalese student of mine aspired to go to a top notch cosmetology school in Charlotte. She showed me the beauty Institute’s web site. Yes, I remember reading about Regency Beauty Institute and their locations at nearly 80 places in the U.S.

Sadly, she did not qualify for Federal financial aid even though the cosmetology school has got great credentials from National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS).

Since I could not personally help her financially, I encouraged her to write to the Regency’s president and CEO, Hayes Batson. As a finalist of the year 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year, I thought he would be sympathetic towards her application for educational loan.

As the CEO of a successful mathematics academy, I added a note to Hayes Batson that she deserves a break and Nepal has got stupendous potential for Regency Beauty graduate.

We have not heard so far from him.

Mice that wore shirts but no pants!

Your first utterance after reading the first sentence below will justify the title of this blog. Let us see!

Walt Disney was afraid of mice!

Ha, ha, did I hear you say, "Is it so?".

This is debated even in Yahoo! Answers and I liked one of the answers that says Walt Disney did not like mice that wore shirts but wore no pants!

Another hearsay is he depicted Micky as a sympathetic creature mainly because the world hated mice.

Here is one more challenge for you!

It is possible to lead a cow upstairs but, not downstairs.

Go ahead and try it if you have a cow and your house is a two story building.

Diapers in planes?

A fashion show of a unique kind-grownup people wearing diapers meant for them paraded on stage in Japan.

The newspapers have reported this extraordinary fashion show report that this a $500 million per year business.

Man, that is a huge estimate but how will it take for the rest of the world to let the facts and figures (ambiguity?)
sink in and take action accordingly?

Will the railways and airlines see this as an opportunity for minimal use of their toilets and of course less water usage?

Nikkei estimated that the sales of the protective undergarments have doubled over the past decade to 52.5 billion yen or $500 million annually.

Actos fails diabetic patients.

My son tells me that Europe acts quicker than the U.S. in withdrawing medicines that are producing serious side effects. He recently forwarded some information on Actos lawsuit to my husband who has been suffering from diabetes since 11 years.

He takes insulin as well as oral medications twice a day but still complains of diabetic foot which is caused by lack of blood supply from the heart.

Similarly, Actos is causing such defects in heart which becomes incapable of pumping blood. In addition, the medicine is suspected of causing cancer in the bladder.

Several cases Actos lawsuits are appearing in newspapers and in health related web sites.

I am really alarmed. Diabetes opens the doors for all sorts of ailments to enter the patients with high blood sugar.

The medical world just could not cope up with this dreaded disease that is proving to be more fatal than cancer.

What food you should eat at your work place?

Do you remember ever eating at your work place apart from the allowed lunch time? It was not in vogue 30 years before. Now, the entire scenario is changed. People at work are more frequently seen munching than jabbing at their computer keyboard. It is the doctors' advise being strictly followed man. Who ares about completing the work in time?

Ok, guys! Don't get angry. I have actually come here to help you. Do you know what exactly you should eat at your work place?

* Walnuts (supposed to be better for your health than almonds and pistachios)
* Green tea (what I read in Yahoo! Lifestyle doesn't make me happy)
* Fruits (except Jack fruit) The size and smell matters-eh?
* Chocolate, preferably darker
* Popcorn

I have nothing further too add to the list.

New futuristic cars with stylish looks.

Take a close look at the following three pictures. They belong to a futuristic car to be made-not in the U.S. or Japan buddy but in our own India and that too by the Tatas.

No doubt small cars are cute to look at. In addition, when you see them while moving, they look at toys and easily maneuverable. However, tall men (tall women too) would find it very inconvenient to sit at the driving wheel.

This car is going to be built using several advanced automobile technologies that I don't understand.

Some of them are:
*Turning circle radius of just 2.6 meters
* Integrated Human Machine concept
* Aerodynamic drag

Oh, there are more. Go to the source to get the details.

Train driver picks up food at a level crossing.

I think I have a train fever because I keep stumbling on fascinating news on trains. You have seen a video clip here about dangerous entertainment by youth in Bombay suburban trains.

I must confess I have fascination for trains and railway stations (btw, why not train stations similar to bus stands?). The sight of empty railway platforms with a backdrop of mountains and lonely pair of rails make me spend some time there basking in the silence.

Here is another video clip showing a train driver stopping his passenger train in the middle of nowhere to pick up his food packet.

The Funniest Tweets on PoonamPandey.

I had a good time reading the Twitter trends on Poonam Pandey in an article at Yahoo! You too can read the tweets by clicking on the The Funniest Tweets: #PoonamPandey - Yahoo! Lifestyle India

However, to enjoy some of the best creative and humorous tweets, you should be already aware of Poonam Pandey. And if you are not, then, it means you are not a cricket follower.

Alas, if you are not a cricket fan (Indian cricket of course), then you are not an Indian at all. (smile)
Now, that is just a joke. Please don't get offended.

Most dangerous act in Bombay suburban train.

This is true and captured live but I wonder who and how this video was shot in Bombay.

This crazy and dangerous act was performed in Bombay suburban trains. If the video were played to the parents of the performers, what would be their reaction?

Tyrian Purple is world's costliest color.

I laughed when the Kashmiri dress material vendor told me that the the one which I chose is expensive because it is made of Tyrian purple which is the costliest dye in the world since ancient times.

I asked why it is so expensive. He said that it is a natural dye that would never fade when exposed to sunlight. What he said next was truly amazing.

Tyrian purple would become more brighter when exposed to sunlight. I could not understand how a color becomes brighter. To that, the vendor told me that the color would become intense.
He explained all these in Hindi that my husband translated to me.

Somehow he managed to impress me. I bought it imagining how I would boast about it to my sisters. I then did a bit of research on Tyrian purple also known as Royal purple in the internet. The dye was extracted from a particular species of sea snail.

Since the dye was very expensive, only the royal families could afford it ancient times.
